My Journey Begins

Updated: Apr 20, 2021

My journey into the field of Holistic Nutrition began a couple of years ago, but lets back up a few years prior to that. It was April 1, 2011, the day that our son was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes, an autoimmune condition that affects the ability of the pancreas to produce insulin. After a week in the hospital learning the ins and outs of carbohydrate counting and insulin dosage we went home to begin this new journey. We managed. There were ups and downs (literally), we were on the blood sugar roller coaster trying to find the right dosage of insulin to carb ratios for food.

Many would think that this was were my passion for nutrition started but it was actually a couple of years later when our son was diagnosed with another autoimmune condition, Hashimoto’s, which affects the thyroid. We were told that this is quite common and the two conditions often go hand in hand. It was after this diagnosis that I felt that strong Mama Bear instinct and decided there had to be something that I could do. So I began to dig deep into researching Autoimmune conditions. I read book after book after book…my findings…you need a genetic predisposition, environmental trigger and “leaky gut” to develop an autoimmune condition.

Genetics…not a mad scientist so can’t really change that.

Environmental Triggers…yah I can do my share to try and avoid/reduce these.

Leaky Gut…I’m not going to get into a long description of what leaky gut is but basically it’s a break down of the lining of your intestine. This allows pathogens to leak into the blood stream and lymphatic system wreaking havoc on the body. One of the steps to repair leaky gut is the food we eat.

So there you have it…the food we eat

That’s where my Journey with Nutrition began and I haven’t looked back since!
